SiriusXM describes The Emo Project as "throwback emo, scream-o and pop punk from the 2000's mixed with modern day emotionally driven alternative." This is an "xtra" channel available in the app which was demoted from a linear channel after programer Jacquelin Wilding job was cut in a round of layoffs.
When the channel launched, SXM described the channel as Bursting through with dark eyeliner, skinny jeans and long black bangs, and a Hot Topic shopping habit, “emo” music made its way into the mainstream in the mid-2000s. Short for “emotional” or “emotional hardcore,” the genre’s roots actually date back to the early 1980s in Washington, D.C., having emerged from the city’s hardcore punk scene as a subgenre of post-hardcore. “Music from our scene hasn’t quite fit in anywhere on the radio for a while, so it’s awesome that we finally have a home!” says Emo Project programmer Jacquelin Wilding.
Usually criticism: we love that SiriusXM puts xtra and app-only linear channels on the satellites, but they never update the logos on the receivers and often these channels go unnoticed. It's a pet peeve of ours here, and we wish they'd have better QC in this area. They also don't make it clear how long these will run, but thankfully you can usually figure it out by checking the channel schedule. The Emo Project runs through Sunday October 20th. Next up on the channel is Al Roker's Yacht Soul Guest DJ.
